F#CK YOU BB!!! ARGH!!!
So I plugged my old ass Blackberry Curve 8320 to my computer for a backup. Haven’t done one since February. Then the desktop software tells me to upgrade my device software to version 4.5
I thought I already had it, but I went along with it… 2 hours later… bam… lost everything! This stupid update deleted all of my saved messages, phone numbers, paid applications, apps, saved notepad files that had original lyrics and info!!!
I am very pissed off right now!!! ARGH! I JUST WANTED TO BACKUP MY SHIT! I’ve gained about 100 new contacts since February because I’ve been networking my ass off. I’ve gained some really good contacts last week at Lollapalooza with other artists and managers. All of that is now gone!
If you’re reading this and I have met you sometime after February, please email me your contact info. It would save me a lot of time and I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks… pete@effortmusic.com
I hear Verizon saves EVERYTHING over the air? I also hear very nice things about Droid phones…

About Last Night…

"If anyone's gonna have sex with my sister, it's gonna be me!" -Chappelle's Show
I was sharing my story about my trip to Lansing, MI with my friends at a bar (in my hometown) about how Lansing is filled with rednecks and how I thought I was going to get lynched for driving a Toyota. Then I mentioned that everywhere I went on my tour, people would ask me where I was from because of my “Chicago accent”. People would ask me to say “Chicago” because they’d get a kick out of it.
So as a friendly experiment I walked up to where our waitress was sitting, she was smoking her cigarette outside. I asked her, “What’s the name of the big city near by?” I wanted to hear how she said, “Chicago”.
This is where White Power Bill comes in. He gets up (obviously eves dropping on my Lansing story) he tells me, “It’s Chicago you stupid fuck!” He stands in front of me, breathing heavy; my friends and I are trying to get this guy to calm down.
He asks where I am from, I told him I was born and raised in “Chicago”. I said it with that thick annoying Chicago “A” on purpose.
He tells me it’s “Chi-Co-Go”
I responded with, “You’re obviously not from around here.”
He says something similar with the following, “Go back to where you came from”
My response, “Born and raised here in ChicAAAAgo”
He says, “Go back to where ever you’re really from, this is Chi-co-go!”
Then I said jokingly, “Well if Chicago isn’t good enough, then I came from my mothers womb. I think I was in Vegas at the time.”
Then he asked which country my parent’s came from, I told him “South Korea”, he says, “Get your Chinese looking family out of here and get back to where you guys came from originally.”
By this time the bartender is trying to stop this guy. My friends are trying to hold me back from what? I am not sure, I wasn’t going to punch this guy, this guy was twice my size!!!!
Then he finally admitted that he was a red neck out of the blue, I guess it all started because I mentioned rednecks in my Lansing story to my friends. Anyway, he says “I’m a redneck, I drive a diesel”. It was ridiculos, kudos to him for coming out the hillbilly closet.
I went back inside to use the bathroom. Then I walked back out to smoke a cigarette and I explained to a friend who had just arrived on what had happened. White Power Bill happened to be outside listening in and I was calling him “Hill Billy Bob” to describe him in the story because he admitted to being one.
That did not fly well with him. He ended up walking up to me then he punched me in the face and I went all Eric Cartman on him, telling him I’d press charges unless he would bend over, bow down infront of me (and everyone else), clean my muddy feet (I was at Northbrook Days and it rained, mud everywhere), and to apologize. By this time the owner arrived and he was quickly filled in with what was happening. White Power Bill was hiding by his car.
I wasn’t going to actually call the cops, I was having fun by this time since I had the advantage of the situation. I wanted to teach him a lesson that it wasn’t the 1950′s any more, that our president was in fact black, and trying to prove all of this with out violence.
I was the bigger man for not physically fighting back, I was actually laughing when he punched me, it was cute. He had enough problems to worry about, he had his intelligence to battle with and that’s a challenge enough for his sake.
I still want an apology though!

It’s Been a Crazy Week!

Thanks to Lindsay for taking this picture of us at Double Door last night! Special thanks to Kieren a.k.a. Mr. Meowgi for helping out with the effects
Tuesday, my buddy Jesse and I drove 6.5 hours to Columbus, OH for a gig at Bristol Bar. By the time we arrived, the place looked closed down. We walked up and saw two guys setting up their DJ gear. They let us in and we chatted for about 10 minutes. I asked what time they wanted me to play and both of them had a confused look. One of them said that I wasn’t booked to play Bristol Bar. Eventually they realized that the previous promoters there booked me. They explained that they moved to a different club named Oldfields. I was extremely pissed off at this point.
Jesse and I drove to Oldfields and the promoters who booked us were there. They explained that they wrote on our Facebook wall about the change of venue. I didn’t find this professional since I’ve explained to them that communicating by email or calling/texting to my phone was the best way to keep in touch. Regardless everything worked out and I got to play. By the way Oldfields is a fucking dump. Chad one of the promoters and DJ (a.k.a. Attak) dropped some sick beats, I’d definitely book him here in Chicago sometime.
Wednesday we ended up at a quaint little town called Wooster, OH. The city looked like it was frozen in time from the 1950′s except for the Chase Bank down the street. All the stores were mom and pop shops. It was nice to get away from corporate America. We stayed with my friend and old roommate Samantha. She took us to see Inception (my second time) and then at some Mexican restaurant for dollar margaritas. Thank you Sam for being so hospitable and for welcoming us to Wooooooooster!!!!!!
Thursday we took the most beautiful drive to Pittsburgh, PA. I remember telling Jesse that the perfect city would be somewhere with tall buildings next to a lake with mountains in the background. We were driving through a tunnel then when we got out we saw Pittsburgh. It was the city I had just mentioned to Jesse. Pittsburgh was such a surprise. I had always thought that the city would be a dump, but it was so beautiful. I fell in love right away.
We went to a BBQ at the promoters house, Ashley from YinzerParty.com. Ashley and her roommates were incredibley nice and hospitable. Before we arrived, Ashley asked to come over for beer chicken butt. At the time I thought she was offering beer with chicken anus. I didn’t want to disrespect since I thought Pittsburgh did things differently. I was wrong, it was a whole chicken with a beer can stuffed up its ass. I was relieved.
So we drove together to Brillobox where I played alternating sets with Mary Mack. I was surprised how nice everybody was from Wooster to Pittsburgh. I’ll admit I was a bit cranky Thursday because I had been driving 2 days straight and didn’t get much sleep.
Jesse and I drove back to Chicago from Pittsburgh Friday morning. It was a cool 7 hours. I was exhausted when I got back. I stayed in for two nights.
Last night was a huge night. We passed up on Cleveland, OH and Detroit, MI to play last nights show in Chicago. It was the Lollapalooza Remix Throwdown Finals. We won last year so there was no way I was going to pass up on this show. Dan once again couldn’t make it, so I asked my friend Kieren to help me out with some of the effects. Hot Pink Delorean and Hey Champ headlined the night and it was a fucking party!
The remix finalists: Lucky Date, Professor Purple, DJ White Shadow, and Craig Williams were all awesome. The Aussie Craig Williams ended up winning and he fucking rocked out last night, it was “bullshit-awesome” as he would say. Everyone else did a wonderful job!
Today I drove Jon and Chris from Hot Pink Delorean to O’Hare Airport. It was kick ass getting to know them since I’ve been a big fan of “Party Favour” (I usually drop that motherfucker every time we play).
The traffic back to Chicago was a bitch. I had a musicians workshop class with the Lolla finalists today and I was supposed to pick up Craig, but the traffic held me back. Craig decided to skip the class and head to the airport. Since I was almost at the W Hotel where Craig and his girlfriend were staying, I offered to drive them to O’Hare. I should start a DJ taxi service, haha. It was my pleasure
Tomorrow night, the tour continues to Lansing, MI at Mac’s Bar. Last time we were booked there we didn’t make it because Dan and I both got sick. I remember making the “Wild Leek” music video that night. Well Lansing, here we come!
Special thanks to: Jesse, Samantha, Ashley + her roommates, Chad, Nick, everyone that made it out to see us, Dani, and Jesus.

Mini Tour

So we finally go on our first tour…. more like a mini tour….
We were supposed to hit up Cleveland and Detroit, but had to pass on both cities to come back to Chicago for the Lollapalooza Remix Throwdown Finals at Double Door on Sunday August 1st. We decided to do this show and pass up on two because of sentimental value. Last year we won the contest and it was a blast playing Double Door. This year we’ll be playing on the official lineup with Hot Pink Delorean and Hey Champ. Hollywood Holt will be hosting the show and I promise you that Double Door will be a blast! Dani Deahl did an amazing job setting up the contest this year! I must say that I am stoked for the contest finalists to battle it out to play Lollapalooza. The finalists are all awesome and they’ll make a great match up against each other (More on the finalists here).
So….. we kick off our mini tour in Columbus, OH tonight at Bristol Bar then we’ll head over to Brillobox in Pittsburgh, PA! I want to thank Ashley at Yinzer Party for setting that show up! Check out her blog here! Then we head back for the Lolla Remix Finals then back out on the road to Mac’s Bar in Lansing, MI. On Friday the 6th, we’ll be returning to Tonic Room for a Lollapalooza after party with DJ Pasha, My Best Friends Party, and Mr. Meowgi! It’s going to be an exciting two weeks!

dC ‘The Session’

Before we became Punky Fresh, we made hip hop instrumentals… We were in high school and I would ditch my classes to work on music in the electronic music studio at Glenbrook North High School. We were such nerds and passionate in making music that we’d stay in til 8 or 9pm working on it at school.
Dan and I worked hard on what would become ’The Session’ from August 2003-March 2004. We released the album independently through gramCracker records on April 20, 2004. We were known as dC.
We deeply thank Mr. Chapman at Glenbrook North for encouraging us to make music. If it wasn’t for that classroom and Mr. Chapman, none of this today would be possible.
I haven’t listened to ‘The Session’ in years but in my mind, it’s a brilliant instrumental album. The post production on the album (mixing, effects, mastering, etc.) may not be the greatest, but the music itself, from melodies, arrangement and structuring blows my mind still today. It boggles my mind that we were only 17 and 18 years old and we didn’t sample anything, it’s pure organic electronic music. everything was original.
i would love to remix ‘The Session’ and per haps change some of the instruments, and definitely re-master it….
I have posted the album in its entirety for free in MP3, so if you’re in the mood for some chilled out beats, then enjoy our debut album from 2004. Stay tuned for new Punky Fresh material. I promise it will blow your mind to the moon.
